Housing

Characters in Maiden Desmodus are able to build their own estates within the game world using property deeds and permits. Property deeds are special objects that can be purchased with karma from the City Clerk within the City Halls of both Johannasburg and Tharn. With a property deed in your possession you are able to build a personal estate in any room suitable for building. To locate these areas, use the survey skill of the senses skillset.

When you create a new estate it will consist of only a plot of land. To expand your estate, you must then use building permits of varying kinds to build new buildings (rooms) within your estate. It is possible for you to create virtually any type of estate suitable to the theme of Maiden Desmodus. Be sure to read the related help files to fully understand how the player housing system works. It is possible to own several estates and as the estate owner, you are able to lock and unlock any door on your estate without a key.

There are several special purpose rooms you may add to your estate that enable you to practice certain tradeskills or skills. You can even add a storeroom to your estate and priceset items within it so that they can be purchased at any market in the game by other players.

The staff of Maiden Desmodus reserves the right to redecorate and renovate any rooms that you build that are well beyond the scope of our theme and genre. We will only edit your estates, however, if they are totally inappropriate. For the most part, what you create is your little piece of the game that will remain yours forever.

You may have any number of estates and any number of buildings within each estate, however you may only build one estate leading from any particular location. You can use the survey command to see if a location is suitable for building or if there are any other estates already built there. There is no limit to the number of estates with different owners that can be built from a single location. There are suitable building locations in both cities as well as around the villages of The Isle.

The following commands can be used with the housing system:

estates

The estates command is used to list the location of all estates you have built using property deeds and the build command.

buildings

The buildings command can be used when on your private estate to list all buildings that are a part of that estate. All buildings (rooms) will have a corresponding number. The number in green is the building in which you are currently standing (this will be marked with an asterisk if you have the screen reader preference set).

build <deed|permit>

The build command can only be used in rooms suitable for building, as noted by first using the survey skill of the senses skillset, or within a private estate. To break ground on a new estate, use a property deed to create the initial yard of the estate. To enter the estate, type the name of your character. You can then use building permits to build specific rooms as a part of your estate and the link command to link them together however you would like.

link <building number> to <building number> <direction> [door name]

The link command is used within an estate consisting of two or more buildings to link them together. To list building numbers, first use the buildings command. Links can be made in any of the eight compass directions, up, or down.If no door name is indicated, then no door will be created. If a door name suchas ‘door’, ‘gate’, or ‘trapdoor’ is used, then the link will have the door placed between the two specified buildings (rooms) that can be locked or unlocked by the estate owner.

eject <person>

The eject command can be used by an estate owner to eject the specified person from the estate.

renovate <new room title>

The renovate command can be used when holding an estate renovation permit to change the name of a building (room) within your estate, replacing the default room title. Use renovation permits to customize your estates.

write
 redecorate

The redecorate command requires an estate redecoration permit. First use the write command to input the new description. When you have finished, type redecorate. When used within a building that is part of an estate you own, redecorate will allow you to enter a new description to replace the default description of the room. Use redecoration permits to customize your estates.
